Our mission is to make sustainable family farming a financially viable way of life once again. In every endeavor, we ask ourselves, "Is it good for the farmer?" To truly understand the challenges farmers face, our team spends countless hours on farms, gaining firsthand experience of the obstacles created by an industrialized food system dominated by large factory farms.
In 2017, Freshlist launched the food hub to address the need for infrastructure that supports the farming community in Charlotte. We began with a handful of farms, a small group of chefs, and big dreams. Since then, our farm network has expanded, our list of chefs has grown, and our team has flourished. Despite this growth, we remain steadfast in our original mission: to support the family farmer.
With a farmer-centric approach, we aim to cultivate a better food system by leveraging technology and creating innovative distribution channels. These channels provide consumers with a convenient and transparent way to access real food from local farmers. Nurturing the soil requires time and effort, and our goal is to support those who farm on a human and humane scale. We leverage our resources to allow farmers to spend more time on their land and less time marketing their harvests. By focusing on growers and makers within our community, we strive to support small businesses and keep money circulating locally.
Since 2020, we’ve proudly called Charlotte’s Belmont neighborhood our home. To date, we've generated $11 million dollars of economic impact for our network of 200 family farmers.
